The problem

A new entrance exam needed thousands of practice questions in three puzzle formats: figure sequences, Latin squares and equations. Writing them by hand was slow. Worse, a puzzle with two valid answers slips past a tired writer and gets found by a student.

Reviewing the finished tests was its own grind: screenshots, notes and a manual write-up for the tech team.

What I built

Question generators for each format. Each generator builds a puzzle, then a separate solver works it out from scratch. If the solver finds anything other than exactly one answer, the question is thrown away. Difficulty and timing are checked against the real exam.

Proof Reader, a browser extension for reviewers. Press a shortcut on any question, mark up the screenshot and describe the fix. It works out which exam, test and question you’re on by itself. At the end, it exports a PowerPoint with one slide per issue and an Excel tracker the tech team can work through.

A team portal so the whole academic team reaches every tool from one link, on any computer.

“The question generator is incredibly accurate. It saves our team weeks of work.”
